Sensory Landscape III - Original Artwork
Sensory Landscape – Unravelled III
Winter Solstice, Kabi Kabi Country, Secret Cabin Society. 2020
Natural Ink on Paper (Unframed)
56 x 63 cm
Note this shop listing is for one image that is part of a series of four Sensory Landscapes Images.
I use sensory mapping to respond and document the language of landscape. Deeply, listening, looking, smelling, touching, becoming embodied into my surroundings, until they become intimate, I re-remember the oneness that is all of us. I worked on the Winter Solstice (a term from my European ancestry, the time when the Sun pauses before reversing direction). Deep in the Rainforest of Kabi Kabi, Gubbi Gubbi country at a cabin called the Secret Cabin Society, I walked and listened, and watched, smelled, touched and tasted the landscape. Asking for a container of protection, invoking the elemental forces, the plants and animals and my healed ancestors to walk beside me, if they so wished, while I travelled into solitude. As I worked I realised I had to completely unravel myself to work towards becoming whole again. This work is a documentation of those 2 days.
The Quadriptych when all four panels are together measures 112 x 126 cm and was selected for the 2020 SUNSHINE COAST LOCAL CONTENT ART PRIZE
There is also an online workshop that takes you through the process in situ at the Secret Cabin in my shop entitled Sensory Mapping. Link
