Three Forces of the Soul was a collaborative event celebrating the musical, healing and artistic passions of twelfth-century mystic, Hildegard of Bingen. Three major threads of her work were brought together by Amanda Cole (Mezzo-Soprano), Heidi Merika (naturopath and medical), and Anne Harris. This Event was held as part of the Sunshine Coast Inaugural Horizon Festival.
Hildegard’s work inspired Anne to investigate 12th century dyeing and delve into her own European Ancestry to use the process’s of this time period to inform her work. For this exhibition six series of work were created, each one exploring a different aspect of this investigation. In one series Anne uses Hildegard’s books Physica, to engage with the philosophy of plant healing, and their properties. In another, the awareness of the spirit that holds us in our natural world is explored by taking records via print making, using the natural process of plant dyes.
